Donald Trump‘s former attorney general Bill Barr seeks a judge’s approval for arbitration to oversee documents seized from his home Its former employer is “very flawed” saying it will slow down but not change the case against the former president.
Appearing on Fox News on Tuesday, Barr harshly criticized U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon for asking Trump’s lawyers to request a special review of sensitive documents from the former’s home. President Mar-a-girlfriend. Along with the other legal experts who made the decision, Barr’s comments are the latest in a series of comments about the continued fractured relationship between him and Trump since he left office.
Cannon, a Trump appointee, on Monday authorized a special handler, possibly a retired judge or legal expert, to search personal items and documents executed by federal orders by attorney-client or executive privilege of U.S. forces during a court-authorized search in August. 8. Trump’s home in Mar-a-Lago, South Florida.
The ruling also temporarily barred the Department of Justice (DOJ) from using documents seized in the investigation to determine whether Trump was illegally hoarding highly sensitive government documents.
Barr said in an appearance on The Story with Martha MacCallum that he hopes the decision to appoint the special employer will be overturned if the DOJ appeals.
“I don’t think it’s okay to appoint a particular master,” Barr said. “But even if it does, I don’t see it fundamentally changing the trajectory. In other words, I don’t think it changes the game so much that maybe we’ll have to postpone some rain.”
Appeals can take months unless resolved quickly, Barr said.
Despite the victory for Trump’s legal team, Barr said the “fundamental momentum of the case” remained. The government “has very solid evidence” to determine whether to press charges, including whether classified information was improperly processed and handled after Trump’s departure, Barr added.
Trump denies mishandling government documents towards the end of his presidency, calling the search politically motivated. Last week, the former chairman criticized Barr in an article in Truth Social, saying, “Bill Barr ‘has no guts’ and ‘no glory.'” “secret” or “top secret” has been implemented. appeared during a search of the former president’s home.
In one of his Truth social media posts, Trump criticized the way the DOJ posted the documents, but he did not deny having them.
In a separate appearance on Fox News on Friday, Barr said Trump’s legal team “jacked” the DOJ from which he was trying to obtain the documents.
